Together with the Heart Foundation, Ambulance Victoria is working to empower Victorian communities to become Heart Safe Communities by building confidence, skills, and knowledge in order to start lifesaving action in a cardiac arrest.

Thousands of Victorians suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest every year. Tragically, only one in 10 people survive.

A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops. Immediate action is crucial to save a life.

When a bystander performs Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a person is twice as likely to survive and if an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is used, the survival rate dramatically increases.

Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time. It can happen at any age, health, or fitness level and often without any symptoms. That is why it is important for everyone to know what they should do if they witness a cardiac arrest.

It is fundamental that bystanders act quickly in the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest. Saving lives is a team effort and the community is an integral part of the team.

The session is free of charge and lasts approximately 1.5hrs. We will come to your establishment and bring everything that is required. Although not a formal first aid program we teach the necessary skills required to save a life.

We will also teach members how these skills can be applied in their community with the GoodSAM app. GoodSAM is an amazing app that is linked in with the 000 call-taking system and directs CPR/Defibrillator trained people to patients in cardiac arrest while the Ambulance is on the way.
